Meghan Markle was reportedly in talks to join Netflix’s The Gentlemen Season 3, but fresh reports now claim the possible role has already been withdrawn. Here’s what we know.
Meghan Markle May Be Acting Again — Or Maybe Not
Well, that escalated quickly. Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex and former Suits star, was reportedly in early talks to join Season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix crime comedy The Gentlemen. Variety reported on August 22 that Meghan was discussing a possible role, while stressing that the negotiations were extremely early and that there was no contract in place. There was another fairly important detail: Netflix had not even officially renewed The Gentlemen for a third season yet. So technically, we had a potential actress discussing a potential role in a potential season. Hollywood, ladies and gentlemen.
The Reports Were Serious Enough to Get Everyone Talking
This was not merely some mysterious social-media account shouting into the algorithm. The BBC, CNN, The Guardian, Variety, People and other major outlets reported that Meghan was being considered or was in discussions for a role. The BBC described the talks as being in their early stages, while Variety said Meghan’s specific character had not yet been identified. That wording matters because “in talks” and “Meghan Markle has joined the cast” are two very different sentences, despite what your favorite dramatic headline may suggest.
Then Came the Plot Twist
By Saturday, August 22, a new claim had entered the chat. Journalist and former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown reported that Meghan’s proposed casting had been withdrawn, claiming that intense backlash in the United Kingdom had made the situation untenable. That claim was quickly picked up by outlets including OK! Magazine and appeared prominently in the developing Google News coverage. At the time of writing, however, the withdrawal claim has not been publicly confirmed by Netflix, Guy Ritchie, or Meghan’s representatives. Translation: keep the champagne cork in the bottle and the funeral flowers in the car. This story is still moving.

Why The Gentlemen Would Have Been a Very Interesting Choice
If the role had happened, The Gentlemen would have represented a major scripted-acting comeback for Meghan. She became famous playing Rachel Zane on Suits before stepping away from the show and eventually marrying Prince Harry. Guy Ritchie’s series, meanwhile, is very different from a glossy legal drama. It revolves around aristocrats, criminals, drugs, money and extremely British people making questionable decisions in expensive clothing. Frankly, the internet would have written the jokes for free.
The Timing Is Raising Even More Eyebrows
The acting reports arrived alongside renewed coverage of Meghan and Prince Harry spending more time in the United Kingdom or potentially relocating there with their family. Several outlets have connected the reported acting opportunity with those UK plans, although the precise relationship between the two remains unclear. Meghan and Harry already have an established business relationship with Netflix through Archewell Productions, making a Netflix acting project at least commercially plausible. Still, plausible is not the same thing as signed, sealed and appearing in Episode One with a machine gun and a country estate.
Season 3 Is Not Even Official Yet
Here is perhaps the funniest detail in the entire saga: Season 3 of The Gentlemen has not been formally announced by Netflix. Season 2 is scheduled to premiere September 3, 2026, with Theo James returning as Eddie Horniman and Kaya Scodelario continuing as Susie Glass. So all this noise about Season 3 casting has arrived before viewers have even received Season 2. The entertainment industry apparently saw the phrase “getting ahead of ourselves” and interpreted it as a business strategy.
So, Is Meghan Markle Joining The Gentlemen?
Right now, the responsible answer is: we do not know. Multiple credible outlets reported that early discussions had taken place. Those reports did not say Meghan had signed a contract. A newer report claims the proposed casting has now been withdrawn because of backlash, but that has not yet received direct confirmation from the principal parties. Until Netflix, Guy Ritchie’s team or Meghan’s representatives say something definitive, anything stronger than that is speculation wearing a very expensive trench coat.
That may ultimately be the more interesting story. Meghan said in a 2022 interview that she did not expect to return to acting, yet the possibility clearly continues to attract enormous attention. Whether The Gentlemen happens or not, these reports demonstrate that a Meghan Markle scripted comeback remains commercially irresistible as a headline.
Put her name next to Netflix, Guy Ritchie and a British crime series, and suddenly half the internet becomes an unpaid casting department.
Stay Tuned — This One Is Clearly Not Finished
The Meghan Markle–Gentlemen saga has already managed to go from “early talks” to “possible major comeback” to “reportedly withdrawn” in roughly the time it takes most people to decide what they want from Netflix. Until somebody directly involved provides confirmation, consider the casting unconfirmed and the drama very much renewed.
