New Music Friday: Tinashe Goes Popstar, Taylor Swift Adds an Encore & Hip-Hop Keeps the Weekend Moving
New Music Friday for September 25, 2026 brings fresh pop, R&B and hip-hop from Tinashe, Taylor Swift, Tee Grizzley, Madonna and Charli xcx, Jae Stephens and more.
Tinashe Has Entered Her Popstar Era
Tinashe apparently looked at Friday and said, “Yeah, I’ll take some of that attention.” Her new album Popstar arrives September 25, putting her slick mix of pop, R&B and dance music right in the middle of this week’s release conversation. The title isn’t exactly subtle either. After years of genre-hopping, choreography, visuals and making difficult moves look suspiciously easy, calling the project Popstar feels less like bragging and more like finally putting the correct label on the box.
Taylor Swift Wasn’t Finished Yet
Taylor Swift is back in New Music Friday territory with The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, an expanded edition featuring four new tracks, including “Patient Zero.” Because apparently releasing an album and simply walking away from it is no longer part of the business plan. The original era gets another chapter, Swifties get four more songs to analyze like federal evidence, and the playlists get considerably busier.
Madonna + Charli xcx Is Exactly the Kind of Chaos We Support
Then there’s Madonna and Charli xcx, teaming up for a remix of “Danceteria.” Madonna bringing Charli into her world feels remarkably natural — different generations, same general philosophy of “pop music should probably cause a little trouble.” It’s one of those collaborations that sounds slightly unhinged when you first hear the names together and completely obvious about five seconds later.
Tee Grizzley Handles the Rap Department
Over on the hip-hop side, Tee Grizzley arrives with They Forgot, giving Friday a proper dose of Detroit rap while everyone else is dancing around in sequins. The project joins a release week that’s heavier on individual rap tracks and collaborations than blockbuster hip-hop albums, but there is definitely enough new material to keep your weekend playlist from getting lazy.
Jae Stephens Has the AUDACITY
Don’t let the giant names swallow the entire Friday. Jae Stephens releases her debut album AUDACITY, adding another pop/R&B project worth putting on the radar. A debut called AUDACITY is already a mood. No timid “hope you guys like it” energy here — just kick the door open, name the album accordingly and proceed.
Leon Bridges Brings Something Smoother
If your Friday requires fewer flashing lights and more “pour something, sit down and stop checking your phone,” Leon Bridges has you covered with Happiness Anytime. The new album joins Tinashe and Tee Grizzley among September 25’s notable releases and gives this week a smoother R&B/soul option for anybody who has already exceeded their recommended daily allowance of chaos.
So no, September 25 is not one of those New Music Fridays where you open Spotify, stare at the screen and quietly return to the same playlist you’ve been playing since March. Between Tinashe entering full Popstar mode, Taylor Swift extending the show, Madonna linking with Charli xcx, Tee Grizzley representing hip-hop, Jae Stephens making her album debut and Leon Bridges slowing things down, there’s plenty to work with.
Now comes the hard part: deciding what gets played first.
