Celebrity Business Moves This Week: Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Donatella Versace & More

Catch up on this week’s celebrity business moves, from Donatella Versace’s new venture and Kim Kardashian’s Skims Beauty expansion to Beyoncé’s growing Cécred empire and more.

Donatella Versace Is Starting Another Fashion Chapter

Apparently retirement was never going to involve Donatella Versace quietly tending tomatoes somewhere in the Italian countryside. This week, news broke that Versace is partnering with fashion retailer Revolve on a joint venture to create a new fashion-and-beauty business separate from the Versace house.

The brand is expected to debut in 2027 and target markets including the U.S., Latin America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. Donatella isn't just lending her name to somebody else's handbag. She's getting back into the business-building game, and naturally she's doing it on a global scale.

Kim Kardashian Is Bringing Beauty Under the Skims Umbrella

Kim Kardashian has spent years proving that shapewear can become a rather enormous business, and now Skims is preparing to make another move: beauty. Kardashian confirmed that Skims Beauty is expected to launch in 2027. The expansion makes plenty of strategic sense considering Kardashian's long history in cosmetics and skincare.

It also means Skims is creeping closer to becoming a full lifestyle empire. Today, underwear. Tomorrow, moisturizer. Eventually, presumably, Skims-branded real estate where every wall is beige.

Beyoncé's Cécred Keeps Growing Beyond the Celebrity Label

Beyoncé's hair-care company Cécred continues its international expansion, with its push into the U.K. putting another spotlight on how seriously the company is approaching the beauty business. Rather than operating like a quick celebrity merchandise experiment, Cécred has been building an actual organization around hair care, leadership and product development.

Beyoncé may be the famous founder, but the interesting business story is whether Cécred can establish itself as a beauty company that consumers buy because the products work—not simply because Beyoncé's name happens to be nearby.

Alix Earle Wants Reale Actives to Have a Second Act

Influencer Alix Earle is also testing one of the hardest things in celebrity entrepreneurship: getting customers excited after the initial launch confetti has been swept off the floor. Her skincare brand Reale Actives is expanding with Go Calm, its first new product since debuting.

Fortune reported that the brand generated $5 million in first-day sales when it originally launched. That's an impressive opening act, but repeat purchases and successful follow-up products are where influencer brands graduate from internet moment to actual company.

Gerald Anderson Is Betting Bigger on Hospitality

Actor Gerald Anderson is taking his entrepreneurial ambitions further into hospitality through his Trivera Resort interests and a partnership involving glamping company Solora Philippines. It's another example of celebrities moving beyond endorsements and into businesses involving actual assets, operations and long-term development.

Hospitality isn't quite as easy as posting a sponsored Instagram Story and calling it entrepreneurship. There are guests, properties, employees and—horror of horrors—probably spreadsheets.

The common thread this week is ownership. More entertainers, designers and influencers are positioning themselves as founders, partners and operators instead of collecting endorsement checks and heading home. Donatella Versace is entering a joint venture. Kardashian is expanding an established company into another category. Beyoncé is pushing Cécred internationally. Earle is trying to build staying power after a strong launch. Anderson is expanding into hospitality. Fame can get customers through the door once; building a business that convinces them to return is the considerably less glamorous part.

Keep Watching the Business Behind the Fame

Celebrity brands are becoming increasingly interesting because the question is no longer simply, “Which celebrity launched something?” The better question is, “Which celebrity is actually building something that can last?”

We'll keep watching the launches, expansions, partnerships and occasional extremely expensive lesson in why having 40 million followers doesn't automatically make someone Warren Buffett.
