Dark Chapel, Zakk Sabbath and Black Label Society Bring a Night of Heavy Metal Power to San Antonio
It was my absolute pleasure to attend a phenomenal night featuring Dark Chapel, Zakk Sabbath and Black Label Society—three performances packed with raw musicianship, massive sound and the kind of energy that reminds you exactly why live music matters.
On September 4, 2026, the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas, became a temple of crushing riffs, pounding drums and unapologetic heavy metal. From the first note to the final roar of the crowd, this was heavy metal at full volume.
Dark Chapel Opens the Night
Las Vegas natives Dark Chapel kicked things off and immediately set the tone.
Founded in 2024 by guitarist and lead vocalist Dario Lorina, who also performs with Black Label Society, Dark Chapel features Dylan Dyce on guitar, Jeremiah Walker on drums and Mike Leon on bass.
The band hit the stage with confidence and delivered a seamless performance filled with gritty guitars and commanding musicianship. They even broke into a classic cover that had the audience singing along, turning an opening set into a full-room experience.
Dark Chapel didn’t feel like a band simply warming up the crowd. They arrived ready to make their own statement.
Zakk Sabbath Turns Up the Heat
Then came Zakk Sabbath.
Formed in 2014 by guitarist and vocalist Zakk Wylde, the Black Sabbath tribute project brought the music and spirit of the Ozzy Osbourne era roaring into the room.
And when Zakk Sabbath hits a stage, subtlety is not exactly the objective.
The riffs were enormous. Heads were banging. Horns were raised. Bodies collided in the pit, and the energy inside the Boeing Center seemed to climb with every song.
Alongside Wylde were John “JD” DeServio on bass and Jeff Fabb on drums.
Together, the trio delivered the kind of performance that doesn’t merely ask for the crowd’s attention—it takes it.
Zakk Sabbath showed up, turned the volume up and brought the house down.
Black Label Society Takes Command
By the time Black Label Society took the stage, the crowd was more than ready.
Founded in Los Angeles in 1998 by guitarist and singer Zakk Wylde, Black Label Society has spent decades building a catalog and a following rooted in crushing guitar work, unmistakable attitude and a deep connection with its fans.
Joining Wylde onstage were Dario Lorina on guitar, Jeff Fabb on drums and John "JD" DeServio on bass.
Standing in front of a towering wall of amplifiers, the band delivered exactly what the audience came for: heavy riffs, powerful solos and an arena-sized performance that had fans erupting at the beginning and end of every song.
Faces were melting.
But one of the night’s most powerful moments came when all that volume gave way to something much more intimate.
“In This River”
Black Label Society slowed things down to honor the late “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott.
Wylde took his place at the piano for the heartfelt “In This River” as images of Dimebag Darrell and his late brother, Vinnie Paul, appeared behind the band.
For a night built around distortion, thunderous drums and screaming guitars, the moment carried a different kind of weight.
I couldn’t help but shed a few tears.
There was something incredibly moving about watching thousands of heavy metal fans fall into that moment together. It was a reminder that underneath all the volume, aggression and chaos, this music is also built on friendship, loss, loyalty and love.
And sometimes the quietest moment of a metal show hits the hardest.
A Night Worth Reliving
I walked away from the Boeing Center grateful to have experienced it firsthand.
Dark Chapel brought the hunger. Zakk Sabbath brought the fury. Black Label Society brought the power—and, when the moment called for it, the heart.
The entire night was filled with incredible performances, passionate fans and the unmistakable electricity that can only happen when artists and an audience truly connect.
Heavy metal is meant to be experienced live. You feel it in your chest. You hear thousands of people shouting alongside you. You watch strangers become a community for a few hours under the same lights and in front of the same stage.
September 4 was one of those nights.
If I ever get the opportunity to experience a show like this again, there won’t be any hesitation.
I’ll be there.
