Born Andrew Watson and raised in Ventura, California, he spent years building a career that moves between music, entrepreneurship, entertainment, advocacy, and artist development. While recording remains at the center of his creative identity, his larger vision reaches far beyond the studio.

After more than 17 years of developing his sound and navigating the independent music industry, he built a catalog that attracted millions of streams across digital platforms. Young Drew explored acting through an appearance as an extra on Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood Season 5, and remains interested in developing opportunities in television, film, and comedy. Samantha Ann: Every artist has a moment when music becomes more than a passion. For you, when did music become a source of purpose, and when did you realize you wanted to make it your career?
Young Drew: I've always believed music can save lives. For me, it became an outlet during some of the darkest moments of my life. I faced homelessness, rejection, and a lot of uncertainty, but music gave me hope when I felt like I had nothing else. Once I saw people connecting with my story online and telling me my testimony encouraged them, I knew this wasn't just something I loved—it was my calling.
Introducing the Young Drew Sound
Samantha Ann: Your music blends vulnerability, faith, emotion, and melody. For someone hearing Young Drew for the very first time, how would you describe your sound and the experience you want your music to create?
Young Drew: I'd describe my sound as emo Christian rap with melodic hip-hop influences. It's emotional, raw, and honest. I make music that talks about real struggles, real faith, and real healing. It's for anyone who's ever felt broken but still believes there's hope.
The Artists and Faith Behind the Music
Samantha Ann: Many artists are influenced by the voices they grew up listening to, but also by the personal relationships and beliefs that guide them. Who are some of your greatest musical influences, and how have they helped shape your style and message?
Young Drew: I've been inspired by artists who aren't afraid to be vulnerable in their music, especially artists like my god brother Xxxtentacion Juice Wrld, Trippie Redd and Lil Uzi Vert. They helped shape the emotional side of my sound. But my biggest influence is my relationship with Jesus Christ. My goal is to combine honest storytelling with a message of hope and redemption.

Samantha Ann: Your music speaks directly to people who may be facing battles that others can't see. When someone finishes listening to one of your songs, what message or feeling do you hope stays with them?
Young Drew: I want people to know they aren't alone. No matter what you're facing—depression, homelessness, rejection, anxiety, or heartbreak—there's still hope. I want my music to remind people that your current situation doesn't define your future, and that God can use your pain to create purpose.

Young Drew: My latest music reflects everything I've been living through. It's about fighting through adversity, refusing to give up on my dreams, and trusting God every step of the way. Every song is part of my testimony, and I hope listeners hear not just the struggle, but the victory that's possible when you keep moving forward.
Creating While Fighting to Survive
Samantha Ann: Building a music career is challenging under any circumstances, but you've also had to create while facing homelessness and uncertainty. What's been the greatest challenge of your journey, and what helped you continue when giving up felt easier?
Young Drew: Without question, homelessness has been the biggest challenge. It's hard to build a career when you're focused on surviving day to day. But I refused to let my circumstances define me. I kept creating content, making music, and believing that God had a bigger plan. Along the way, people and communities that believed in me reminded me to keep going, and that's something I'll never forget.
Turning Real Emotion Into Music
Samantha Ann: Your lyrics come from a very personal and authentic place. When you begin creating a new song, what usually comes first... the lyrics, the melody, a specific experience, or an emotion you need to release?
Young Drew: There's no formula for me. Sometimes a melody hits first, and other times I start writing because something happened in my life that I need to express. I don't try to manufacture emotions—I want every lyric to come from a real place. If I didn't live it or truly feel it, I don't want to record it.
The Moments That Matter Most
Samantha Ann: A meaningful performance isn't always defined by the size of the crowd or the stage. Sometimes it's the connection between an artist and the people receiving the message. What's been the most memorable moment of your journey so far, and why does it stand out?
Young Drew: One of the most memorable parts of my journey has been seeing my story reach people through social media and livestreaming. Watching complete strangers relate to my testimony and support my music reminds me why I started. Those moments mean just as much to me as any stage because they prove that authenticity connects with people.
The Vision for the Year Ahead
Samantha Ann: You've already shown that your circumstances can't limit your vision. Looking ahead to the next year, what goals are you setting for yourself... both professionally and personally?
Young Drew: Professionally, I want to continue releasing impactful music, perform on bigger stages, grow my audience, and build more partnerships with major brands. Personally, I want to keep growing in my faith, continue advocating for mental health, and use every opportunity God gives me to inspire people who feel overlooked or forgotten.
The Experience That Changed Everything
Samantha Ann: Every artist carries experiences that shape the way they see the world, tell stories, and connect with others. Which experience has had the greatest impact on the person and artist you are today?
Young Drew: Everything I've been through has shaped me, but homelessness changed my perspective more than anything. It taught me resilience, gratitude, and faith. It forced me to depend on God in ways I never had before. Those experiences became the foundation of my music because I never want people to think they're fighting their battles alone.
